Did anyone else ever buy or dip into any of the 'competition' Look-In had over the years. There was always the variable TV Comic through the 70s, finishing in 1984, but there was also Countdown/TV Action, Target (short-lived nice idea but with appalling print), and then Beeb (again short-lived) in the 80s.

Were any of these serious competition for Look-In? What do you think were their strengths and wealnesses... ?

Cool

I used to really enjoy TV Comic, as I remember. Didn't it have Doctor Who in during the Tom Baker years? I used to love the Doctor Who strip being a big fan of the TV show so I seem to think it was because of Who that I read TV Comic. Don't have any issues now and I can't seem to recall what else was in it.. the Pink Panther maybe...? I dunno. Being the nostalgic sort, though, I'd love to read a few issues again to bring back a few memories. If anyone has any websites that they can point me in the direction of...

I do seem to recall that Look-in was better than all the other TV mags in many ways; better strips, nicer printing. TV Comic, I seem to think, was over-sized and unwieldly being more newspaper in size than a magazine, though I'm sure it wasn't always like that.

I never read Countdown and, again, can't seem to remember TV Action even if I did buy it on odd occasions. The more I think about these things, the more I reckon I'd like to see some of these classic British TV mags again.

Once Look-in arrived I never bought another tv mag, until BEEB which apart from The Tripods strip was awful, before Look-in I was a TV21 and Joe 90: Top secret fan. the strength of Look-in was that it appealed to a much wider audience, because of the varied strips. It was a lot older in approach than TV Comic, which was mainly cartoons. And unlike the anderson comics, had other subjects than Sci fi, follyfoot for example. It also gained mass appeal by staying in touch with all the trends that came and went. This is why it's so fondly remembered.
