Nice update John, but a few errors in the Space:1999 article:

Space:1999 was not the only strip to debut in 'Look-In' before its series appeared on British television. Robin Of Sherwood also appeared in its first issue of 'Look-In' a few days before the first series aired, and I think (though I can't be certain as I'm not at home with my reference material at the moment) Battlestar Galactica also did. The TV series was delayed considerably after the cinema release of the Battlestar films, and in the London region at least, Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century made their debut in roughly the same week - BG on a Thursday evening, BRin25C on Saturdays - I thought in competition with Tom Baker's last season as Dr Who (i.e. late 1980).

John Burns returned to do a three-part b/w strip for Space:1999 in late 1976.

Cool

Couple of errors in the Chronology too, John:

Celebrity Choice was, of course, replaced by Catweazle. It may not have been in the same position but one ended then the other began.

The Flaxton Boys could not have been replaced by the second run of Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, as it - according to you - was replaced by... The Flaxton Boys?

Cool

Thanks for the heads up Shaqui,
I'll get on to those errors soon, did the flaxton boys come between the two runs of voyage, or at the end of run two?, you have a lot of 71 issues perhaps you could help me on that one

Thanks,

John

I've just looked a realised, the run goes Voyage (run 1) replaced by Flaxton boys, which was replace by run two of voyage. Ive put the dates of the two runs in the same row, but it might make more sense to put them on different rows.

I hope this makes sense!

Errors now fixed, look at the chronology now and see if it makes more sense.

Looks like several rows are repeated now?

Confused

Also not sure about Kung Fu replacing David Cassidy... either the date is wrong (Kung Fu started in April 1974 - see the archive, the first issue is there) or David Cassidy ran beyond the end of 1973...

Confused

Space:1999 was not the only strip to debut in 'Look-In' before its series appeared on British television.

In fact, I've double-checked this now (I hadn't before as I assumed John was right) but Space:1999 did not actually appear in 'Look-In' before the series debuted on British TV. ATV and London aired the first episode on Sept 4 and Sept 6 respectively, though the third largest region - Granada - held back until Sept 26. So if you're in Granadaland, John, on a personal level you're correct, but for the other readers, the statement is sadly inaccurate.

Of course, this throws a new light on how accurate any feature is, depending on which UK TV region you are in!

Also, you added mention of Buck Rogers in the Space:1999 feature - the strip did not appear in 'Look-In' until October 1980 (again, this is in the archive) whereas the series was first televised in late August... *

Sorry John - back to the drawing board.

Sad

*in the LWT region, of course.

There is a new mid month update, of two issues from 79 and 84, for you to view on Look-out now

http://www.geocities.com/juniortvtimes2006/

I have altered the chronology to take all the repeated lines out, (Dunno what happened there!) and will update other information soon, thanks for your input.

John.

I have now altered the 1999 background, I am indeed from Liverpool, which is safely within Granadaland, but I think It's probably wise to omit that section to avoid confusion, I knew my mind was'nt playing tricks, I distinctley remember reading the strip and feature, and anticipating the programme. I don't know why only Granada held back, (i'm assuming it was only Granada?....I do a lot of that!), it's a mystery.

I have omitted the Kung fu in the chronology, perhaps someone could give me a heads up, on what replaced david cassidy?....

Enjoy the updates

The end date you have for David Cassidy is incorrect, as the strip was still running in November 1973 (the latest issue I appear to have is no.46). I surmise, as artists tend to begin a new strip as an old one ends and Alan Parry also drew it, that it was replaced by 'Bless This House' from issue 1, cover dated 29 Dec 1973... but if anyone has the issue before this, it would confirm it for certain...

John, I think some of your links need updating? You have issue 18 for 1984 as a new issue, but the links appear to go to the 1974 issue you currently have up?

Confused
