Ed Stewart was famously the face of 'Look-In' throughout the 1970s, more so than the real editors Alan Fennell and Colin Shelbourn, but I wondered how much of a connection he really had with the title?

In Alistair McGown's interview with Colin Shelbourn, it was commented, "We used to write it but he and his agent used to submit some of the more touchy-feely personal stuff. The real news we did although it was often that the items came about through something he tipped us off about if we went to lunch or something. Yes, it was a ghosted column as you get on most newspapers." And 'Stewpot' also fronted a couple of Look-In books - a joke one and (I think) a holiday travel one.

But do you think it worth trying to track him down (I think he recently retired from Radio 1) and seeing what his recollections are? And one has to ask again, if it is possible, would the comments be of interest to either the Strip Archive or 'Look-Out'?

I did try and get in touch with him by emailing his Radio 2 show quite a while back. I gave him a link to the Archive and explained what it was all about but I didn't get anything back from him Sad

I got a reply from Ed Stewart's agent this morning, saying he would be willing to answer questions. Very Happy

So is there anything anyone would like to ask about Ed Stewart and his association with 'Look-In'. At the moment I'm not sure whether I'm doing this by email, letter or (gulp Sad ) phone, but let's see what people want to know before I take it any further.

I would like to know how his connection with Look-in started, how he was approached, and what his expectations of the role were before he started as opposed to what eventually went into print.

Did he really write the comments in the column or was he really just a 'face', and the column written by someone else.

And about his reasons for eventually leaving Look-in.

John.
