Hi Daz
I've heard The Passenger and All Fall Down. They both work well as audio S&S stories but of the two, I preferred All Fall Down. It has an Assignment 4 quality to it if you know what I mean - quite horrific in places! The Passenger dragged a bit for me, but as it was the first one, they were probably still finding their feet. They're both 4 parters, but All Fall Down seems to move at a much quicker pace. Both actors are excellent in their roles, particularly Susannah Harker as Sapphire. And they use the original theme music. The incidental music is also in a similar vein to the original tv series. I do have the other 3 that are available but I haven't got round to listening to them yet - shame on me Embarassed

BTW, there's a thread an Outpost Gallifrey about an ITV remake of Sapphire & Steel, following the success of the new Doctor Who. Apparently, on a recent edition of ITV's This Morning programme, Paul Ross (Jonathan's less successful brother!) announced that P J Hammond is in talks with them about resurrecting it Very Happy

Hiya Steve!

Being a big S&S fan myself, I have been meaning to search the audios out for a long time now but, being in the US, just haven't actually gotten around to ordering them from anywhere yet. I shall really have to make an effort to get them and give them a listen to...

As for resurrecting S&S as an all-new series for television -- that is a fantastic idea!!! Especially with PJ Hammond possibly onboard. Only, as much as I love the original actors, I sincerely hope they don't try to get them back to reprise their roles. I would much prefer to see younger, fresher faces in the parts than two old wrinklies (no offence intended to McCallum and Lumley, we're all getting on). I'm going to pop on over to Outpost Gallifrey (look for shakeyspear in the members list) to see what's being said...

After all the initial excitement a few weeks ago, the thread's dropped to about halfway down page 5 of the Television Forum. What do you think of my suggestions for the lead roles? My username's the same as it is here. And it helps if you've seen the BBC's Spooks Smile

Yep, Steve, I found the S&S thread as you ponted to it...

Pretty interesting! I won't get my hopes up up on it actually getting made though until there's a bit more concrete news to go on. I would dearly love to see Sapphire & Steel resurrected though, it was just so beyond other TV shows of the time. Without a doubt, if they retained the elements that made the original so great, it would be a truly unique and captivating series again.

Can't say I see Sophia Miles in the role as Sapphire either. As much as I like her as an actress, and she was great in the recent Doctor Who ep, I have never thought she commanded the screen like Joanna Lumley did in her day. As for your suggestion for the character, Steve, I'm afraid I don't know who the actress is you mention but I will try and search her out for an idea...

... and I've just seen on the Big Finish website that they're now planning on releasing a further six all-new audio adventures after the success of the first five season one plays. Anything new Sapphire & Steel has got to be good in my book! Now all I have to do is get them to listen to them myself... The full story can be read HERE...
